Neil Ackerman
President, Occidental Chemical Corporation
Neil Ackerman is President of Occidental Chemical Corporation (OxyChem), a wholly owned subsidiary of Occidental. In this role, he is responsible for providing the vision and leadership to drive the continued Health, Environmental, Safety and sustainability improvement, improving profitability and implementing strategies to maximize results and increase value. Mr. Ackerman also oversees the development of future leadership talent, ensuring that diverse and inclusive succession plans are in place for key leadership positions throughout the organization.
Mr. Ackerman’s career at OxyChem spans 30 years. Most recently, Mr. Ackerman was Senior Vice President of Manufacturing and Licensing and prior to this he was Vice President of Health, Environmental, Safety, Security and Sustainability, which included coordinating the companies Public Affairs and Government Affairs efforts. Mr. Ackerman has held a variety of leadership roles in Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain and HESS throughout his career, including 16 years working in several OxyChem manufacturing facilities.
Mr. Ackerman served on the Executive Committee and Board of the Texas Chemistry Council (TCC) from 2007 to 2020, including Chairman of the Board from 2015-2017. He has served as a member of the Management Committee of the Chlorine Chemistry Division of the American Chemistry Council (ACC), as well as the ACC Responsible Care® and Sustainability Committees. Mr. Ackerman currently is a member of the ACC’s Board of Directors and Executive Committee. He is also a Board member for the Alliance to End Plastic (AEPW) and the American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM). Mr. Ackerman holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Detroit.
