This symposium serves as the crossroads for process safety where industry, academia, government agencies and other stakeholders come together to discuss critical issues of research in process safety. Experts from around the world will gather as part of this two and a half-day symposium, to share the latest information on the hottest topics aimed at making the process industry a safer place. The 2016 International Symposium of the Mary Kay O’Connor Process Safety Center will be held at the College Station Hilton Conference Center on October 25-27, 2016.

Susan Wang

Ms. Susan Wang

Vice Chair of the Board
Formosa Plastics Group

Ms. Wang is Vice Chair of the Board of the Taiwan-based Formosa Plastics Group (FPG), a global leader in petrochemicals, plastics and many other industries. Founded in 1954, FPG has grown from what was then the world’s smallest PVC production facility into a worldwide organization; the group has annual revenues of more than $74 billion and over 103,000 employees. FPG also operates several prominent educational and medical institutions in Taiwan.

Mr. John DeLeeuw
Pilot, American Airlines

John DeLeeuw is a 787 pilot for American Airlines (AA), and served recently as the Senior Manager of Flight Safety at American Airlines for over five years.  Prior to his management position at American Airlines, John was the Deputy Chairman of the National Safety Committee at the Allied Pilots Association (APA).  He implemented several safety initiatives benefitting the 10,000 American Airlines pilots, and secured assistance during incidents and accidents for AA crew members throughout the world. John is currently a SMS instructor at the University of Southern California’s Aviation Safety and Security School, and also serves as a member on the Board of Directors of the American Airlines Credit Union.  He also is a safety consultant in a number of different industries, to include oil/gas, medical, and drones.

Ms. Chris Elfring
Executive Director, Gulf Research Program

Ms. Elfring is Executive Director of the Gulf Research Program at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. Her role, with guidance from a carefully selected Advisory Board, is to guide the program’s planning and initial implementation, building from the general requirements in the Settlement Agreement to a multi-faceted science program of lasting impact. She is responsible for overseeing all aspects of starting the new program, including strategic planning, community outreach, interactions with the relevant stakeholders and scientific advisors, staff and budget management, and implementation as activities are designed.
